I'm Rob Horton. I'm vice president in accounting and finance. I oversee FP & A for HRI properties. In about half the portfolio, I oversee accounting.
Tell us about your business and your typical guests
Well, there's 29 of them. Unique guests, obviously, in each. You know, a Lake Havasu beachfront resort kind of gets a different clientele than maybe a downtown Indianapolis. About our property and our typical guests. So most of the portfolio is in urban areas, downtown. So we do have a good bit of business travel, but we also have a good bit of travel for fun and for events.
Which Aptech products do you use?
We use PVNG, Profitvue, and Execuvue
What challenges were you facing before using Aptech and how did Aptech help you solve them?
You know, obviously, many, but I would say that, you know, Aptech really helped us with automation, streamlining, the integrations with the PMS. Support helped us do some really amazing things, integrating with Workday and our payroll process, our procurement system, our purchase order system, and kind of automating the invoice entry there. You know, my role, there's hotels coming and leaving the portfolio all the time. And with that, there's a lot of data coming out of PVNG, a lot of data going into PVNG, a lot of data going out of Execuvue into Execuvue. And I can't imagine it being more easy, especially with the support of the folks here in Pittsburgh.
What benefits have you seen from using Aptech’s solutions?
Through those integrations, you know, through, you know, making everything easy, pulling in flat files, pulling out flat files, streamlining the entries. I always say, you know, especially with the accounting folks, keep the routine routine. You know, everything that can be black and white can be as streamlined and as straightforward as a process as possible. They've got the capacity to go solve the problem, solve the gray area, you know, the one-offs that we pay them so much to have the expertise to solve.
How has your experience been working with the Aptech Team?
Every experience has been good. The team is great. I would say this recent integration with Workday. We had switched from ADP to Workday, both payroll processing and the HR platform. So it was quite a big transformation transition for a number of our teams— human resources, accounting, finance, you know. The fact that something we were so concerned about, you know, how does that payroll end up hitting the profit and loss statement? You know, Aptech really just dove right in and exceeded expectations, timeliness in getting that integration done. And it works like clockwork now.
What’s the #1 thing that stands out about Aptech to you?
I would say the people. I mean, you know, the technology is good. You go to a technology provider, you hope that their technology is good, right? You know, to have the people on the other end of that phone. On the other end of that chat, knowing that they all come from hotel backgrounds, I don't have to spend the first couple of minutes explaining what it is or why I want it that way. We're hotel people and they already know that.
How easy is it for your team to train new employees?
Very easy. I mean, you know, the first half a day. It's very, very straightforward and very easy to use, especially on the PVNG side.

No, I'm very happy with the decision that we made. We're here 11 years now with Aptech and we're very excited on the next chapter in Aptech’s book and how we can work together and continue to make things better.
